PaxOS is an ongoing FreeBSD-based distribution that brings together Windows, Linux, and BSD binaries in a single, open-source environment.
Currently targeting amd64 (x86-64) architecture only.
It started when I was playing around with "ReactOS" for fun until I stopped and asked, "If they can do this, imagine a Distro or OS with Linux, Windows and BSD in one?"
That thought became PaxOS, but instead of reinventing the "wheel", PaxOS uses FreeBSD as a kernel with layers of compatibility on top!
PaxOS uses translators, not emulators. Think of it like Languages Translate, it doesn't replace the original language, it bridges the gap.
Translators used in PaxOS:
FreeBSD: Native Apps
Linux: Linuxulator
Windows: Wine
Yes, PaxOS will always and proudly be Free and Open-Source.
Nothing is stable. Stability depends mainly on the hardware you have and the software you run!
While I love the BSD-2-Clause, due to my legal paranoia, I decided to put it as GPL-2.0 or later.
Don't worry, I created paxinstaller to do automatic! You can download paxinstaller!
